Requirements

• Knowledge of City government, building department procedures and operations, building terminology and codes, construction practices, and materials.
• Experience in customer service and clerical or administrative functions.
• ICC Permit Technician certificate.
• One year of work experience as a Permit Technician in a public agency.
• Related administrative support experience in a public-sector building department, planning department, or public works department.

Responsibilities

• Process building permit applications and miscellaneous permits efficiently, ensuring all necessary approvals are obtained.
• Respond to inquiries and consult with builders, engineers, contractors, architects, and members of the public about submittal requirements, building codes, and permit regulations, both at the counter and over the phone.
• Assemble, route, and monitor plans and related information through City departments and agencies for plan review and permit issuance.
• Calculate valuations, plan-check fees, and permit fees.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
