About The Position

This position is accountable for the investigation, review, and processing of access, utility, and road closure permits which are required by non-Department of Transportation organizations, when working on, and adjacent to, state right-of-way, and wide load investigations. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Permit Technician. The IDOT team works diligently to provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity and protect our environment. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology or pre-engineering curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR Seven years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains harmonious relationships with applicants.
  • Makes determination as to the acceptability of applications.
  • Answers inquiries and instructs applicants as to proper permit procedures.
  • Implements access and utility permit computer record system.
  • Ensures subordinate personnel comply with all departmental safety rules, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment to all outside agencies or general public doing business with the state.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
