About The Position

The Perioperative Assistant works in the Operating Room at Unity Hospital. The role supports the successful flow of operations by accurately and efficiently assisting with the setup and processing of instruments. Unity Hospital’s OR has 14 operating room suites, including four endoscopic suites, and provides services across multiple surgical specialties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of medical management techniques and processes.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to perform the skills noted in the Unity Health System job description.
• Computer proficiency.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience in central decontamination.

Responsibilities

• Prepare case supplies, pick linens, fill needs lists, secure positioning aids, update pick sheets, and locate loaner equipment.
• Assist OR staff with operating room setup, cleanup, and turnover.
• Perform surgical preparation duties, including shaving and holding limbs, and assist with positioning surgical patients.
• Stock and order necessary supplies under the direction of the OR Materials Manager; rotate stock and check expiration dates.
• Maintain a sterile environment, sterilize equipment, and transport items to turnover rooms for processing.
• Wash and reassemble instruments used during surgical procedures as requested.
• Transport patients to and from the OR, run errands, pick up x-rays, deliver equipment, clean stretchers and beds, and assist in Pre-An and PACU.
