About The Position

The Radar Engineering team at Apple seeks an early-career Performance Engineer to help keep Radar fast at Apple scale. Radar is Apple’s primary tool for defining, tracking, and testing issues, and is used across the company for bug tracking, test case management, and product management. As a high-traffic, business-critical system, Radar supports engineering workflows across Apple, where latency can affect engineers company-wide. The Performance Engineer will design and run load and performance tests across a complex microservices ecosystem, measure and profile services, identify bottlenecks, and help the platform remain fast as it evolves. The role offers structured mentorship, comprehensive training in Apple’s development practices, and opportunities to take on increasing ownership of performance testing, capacity planning, and introducing performance tools and technologies. The team is distributed across California, Texas, and Ireland, and works collaboratively to deliver features supporting Apple’s engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • Solid programming or scripting skills in Java, Python, or a similar language.
  • Understanding of how web services, databases, and networks affect application performance.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and a working understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to triage problems, prioritize accordingly, and propose a resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to load testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or k6.
  • Exposure to profiling and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
  • Interest or experience in agentic workflows, MCP integrations, or AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run load, stress, and performance tests for Radar’s services.
  • Analyze test results, profile services, and identify bottlenecks.
  • Report findings clearly and work with engineers to verify fixes.
  • Track performance trends across releases and flag regressions.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and performance test strategy.
  • Help bring new performance tools and technologies onto the platform.
  • Follow and help improve the team’s engineering best practices.
