Radar Engineer

SAIC•Denver, CO
•Onsite

About The Position

SAIC is seeking a Radar Engineer for its National Security and Space Sector, supporting a joint Intelligence Community and Department of Defense program in Aurora, Colorado. The role provides specialized space and counter-space engineering, scientific, and analytical services. The engineer will work collaboratively with U.S. Government civilians and contractors to solve applied technical problems and develop usable solutions for space-related capabilities and threats. The position focuses on conceptualizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and assessing ground- and space-based radar systems, radar phenomenology, target signatures, and radar signal-processing techniques. The work emphasizes problem solving and developing a range of solutions rather than system development. The engineer will apply technical standards and principles, support program development and operations, and communicate technical assessments and recommendations to program managers, satellite owner/operators, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering and at least 9 years of direct experience analyzing and interpreting radar systems and data, or at least 7 years with a master’s degree.
  • Proven analytic problem-solving experience exploiting radar data of space objects, including familiarity with radar data products, signal-processing techniques, and scattering phenomenology.
  • Understanding of astrodynamics fundamentals and space systems.
  • Fluency with specialized software tools or programming languages relevant to space systems, such as MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in groups, proactively initiate work, and operate in dynamic and incompletely defined environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience conveying technical concepts, results, and summaries to internal and external customers and stakeholders with diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Must have TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to conceptualize, synthesize, analyze, and assess ground- and space-based radar systems, radar phenomenology, target signatures, and radar signal-processing techniques.
  • Experience with IC and/or DoD space-system development, acquisition, or operations.
  • Understanding of the technical and operational concepts of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR).

Nice To Haves

  • Polygraph clearance preferred.
  • Familiarity with evaluating and using vendor-provided modeling products such as HFSS, CST, and X-Patch.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct specialized technical studies related to radar systems, targets, and data products, providing assessments and actionable solutions for program managers or satellite owner/operators.
  • Lead and participate in complex physics-based modeling, simulation, and analysis, and conduct technical trades.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of U.S. national security space, foreign space, counter-space threats, and space surveillance and identification.
  • Participate in and represent the customer at Government and contractor meetings and technical or programmatic reviews, providing technical recommendations and risk assessments.
  • Frequently interact with program managers, SETAs, FFRDCs, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop productive relationships with Program Office, prime and subcontractor counterparts, functional IC or DoD counterparts, and other subject matter experts.
  • Repeatedly apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
