About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring a Performance and Modeling Engineer in Austin, Texas. The role works with driver, compiler, and design engineers to improve GPU performance; validate feature functionality and quantify performance benefits; and implement solutions in hardware and software. The engineer conducts directed studies and addresses performance challenges unique to mobile GPUs, helping drive the architecture of next-generation mobile products through measurements, simulations, benchmarking, and competitive analysis. The position also debugs GPU performance issues with design engineers, conducts GPU performance tests, collaborates with software teams to develop GPU models for different sections, and builds tools that support efficient measurement, communication, and improvement of GPU performance. The position is 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience using C and Python to develop performance analysis tools and automation scripts for GPU microarchitecture evaluation.
  • Experience with compiler toolchains, including analyzing instruction scheduling, register allocation, and code generation for GPU compute workloads.
  • Experience using SystemVerilog or Verilog, including reading and analyzing RTL to identify and debug hardware-level performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience analyzing GPU microarchitecture, including using performance counters to evaluate throughput, latency, and execution-unit utilization.
  • Experience analyzing memory hierarchy and NUMA architecture, including cache behavior, memory bandwidth characterization, and error-correction mechanisms.
  • Experience using Python (Pandas, Matplotlib) and data visualization tools to build performance dashboards and report regression trends to engineering teams.
  • Experience using scripting languages, including Python and Shell, to automate performance regression testing, benchmark execution, and results collection.
  • Experience in full-stack hardware/software performance analysis, including correlating compiler output with microarchitecture execution behavior across silicon and pre-silicon environments.
  • Experience using Git and code review processes, including collaborating on multi-engineer codebases to implement and validate performance improvements.
