About The Position

VSCO is seeking a People Operations Specialist to own the systems and processes behind the employee and contractor experience. This role focuses on building and managing the infrastructure for the workforce, including HRIS and contractor management systems, onboarding/offboarding workflows, compliance processes, and data reporting. The ideal candidate thinks like an operator and an analyst, capable of transforming manual processes into efficient, scalable systems. This position reports directly to the CEO and is based in San Francisco, CA, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, People Systems, or a related operational role
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms such as Sapling and Lattice, and contractor management systems
  • Strong systems thinker: ability to build processes that scale
  • Enjoy working with data: ability to build reports, spot trends, and turn data into clear insights
  • Working knowledge of core employment and contractor compliance fundamentals, or the ability to acquire it quickly
  • Excellent written communicator: clear, concise, and precise documentation of policy or process
  • High discretion and judgment: ability to handle sensitive employee and contractor information with care
  • Fluent using AI tools: ability to use them to work faster and think better
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI tools and workflow automation opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain HRIS, contractor management platforms, and related systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Evaluate, implement, and improve tools for hiring, onboarding, payroll coordination, benefits administration, and contractor engagement.
  • Build reporting and dashboards for leadership visibility into headcount, org structure, contractor spend, and workforce trends.
  • Manage end-to-end onboarding and offboarding for employees and contractors.
  • Own contractor classification, agreements, and renewals in partnership with Legal and Finance.
  • Coordinate benefits administration, leave management, and other lifecycle processes.
  • Identify and design scalable systems to replace manual or inconsistent people processes.
  • Use data to answer workforce questions (e.g., turnover, time-to-hire) and collaborate with leadership on recommendations.
  • Document policies and processes for ease of understanding, auditing, and handoff.
  • Ensure compliance with employment and contractor regulations across operating jurisdictions.
  • Own recurring compliance workflows, including onboarding documentation, I-9 processes, and employee file maintenance.
  • Partner with Finance and external vendors to coordinate payroll inputs, audits, and payments.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team on policy updates, handbook maintenance, and internal communications.
  • Support culture-building efforts, including logistics for team offsites, all-hands meetings, and employee appreciation.
