About The Position

Gamma is a rapidly growing AI company, seeking a People Operations Lead to build the operational backbone for its expanding workforce. This role is crucial for creating a positive employee experience throughout the entire lifecycle, from onboarding to off-boarding, and for establishing AI-native internal operations. The ideal candidate will own the core People function, including HRIS, employee lifecycle processes, performance infrastructure, compliance, benefits, and employee data. They will also act as a hands-on partner to functional leads and people managers, providing support on organizational health and navigating people-related challenges. This is the first dedicated People Ops hire, ideal for someone who prefers building systems from the ground up. The company fosters a strong in-office culture, with employees working in San Francisco 4-5 days per week, balancing in-person collaboration with the flexibility of remote work for focused tasks.

Requirements

  • 6-9+ years of experience, with significant time in People Ops or HR at a high-growth tech company, or experience in consulting, strategy, or business operations with a focus on building people ops infrastructure.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and figuring things out independently.
  • Operationally rigorous and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and iterate.
  • Experience evaluating and selecting HRIS platforms (e.g., Rippling, Workday, BambooHR).
  • Proven experience building processes from scratch.
  • Strong data skills, including the ability to build reports and identify key insights.
  • Proactive in adopting and utilizing new tools, especially AI, to solve immediate problems.
  • Low tolerance for repetitive manual work; a strong inclination to automate processes using AI, no-code platforms, scripts, or other tools.
  • Preference for building new systems over maintaining existing ones.
  • Energized by the prospect of being the first person in a People Ops role.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend HRIS options and optimize the broader people tech stack with a focus on automation and AI-powered workflows.
  • Implement the selected HRIS across payroll, IT, onboarding, reporting, and employee records.
  • Own employee data infrastructure, reporting, and analytics, utilizing AI for proactive insights.
  • Build internal tools and automations to provide managers with self-service access to information and workflows.
  • Design and manage a world-class onboarding experience, leveraging AI for personalization and efficiency.
  • Oversee end-to-end off-boarding processes, ensuring compliance and a positive experience.
  • Develop scalable processes for a distributed, international workforce, prioritizing automation.
  • Implement and manage performance review cycles, including system configuration and manager calibration.
  • Build the infrastructure for ongoing coaching and performance management, including frameworks, templates, and manager guidance.
  • Partner with managers on employee development conversations and performance concerns.
  • Serve as the day-to-day people partner for functional leads and people managers, advising on organizational health and flagging risks.
  • Support managers in becoming more effective through coaching and just-in-time assistance.
