About The Position

The People Experience Director exists to build and scale a high-performing, people-first organization as we grow. This is a strategic leadership position responsible for shaping how the company builds leaders, attracts and retains great talent, scales its culture intentionally, and equips teams to operate with clarity, accountability, and ownership. The Director will lead the People function (payroll, onboarding, recruiting) while partnering closely with the COO and company leaders to ensure the culture and leadership capabilities grow stronger as the company scales. This role requires someone who is both a culture driver who deeply cares about people, and a builder who ensures things actually get done.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in People, HR, or People Operations leadership
  • Has worked in startup or high-growth environments
  • Comes from high service-oriented organizations (where people experience matters deeply)
  • Is warm, approachable, and people-first in how they lead
  • Can also drive execution and hold high standards
  • Has experience building teams, systems, and leadership capability
  • Is comfortable operating at both strategic and practical levels
  • Is energized by building culture intentionally—not maintaining the status quo
  • Building trust quickly across all levels of the organization
  • Developing leaders who take ownership and grow others
  • Turning ambiguity into clear, scalable systems
  • Balancing empathy with accountability
  • Making things better—not just managing what exists

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a scalable People strategy aligned to company growth
  • Bring new capabilities, tools, and systems to elevate the organization
  • Partner with leadership to anticipate and solve people-related challenges
  • Develop a strong leadership bench across the organization
  • Train and coach leaders to effectively manage people, performance, and conflict
  • Embed principles from The Empowerment Dynamic (The Power of TED) to reduce drama and increase ownership
  • Act as a steward and driver of company culture
  • Ensure company values are lived consistently across teams and leaders
  • Help leaders create environments focused on outcomes, accountability, and growth
  • Lead a team across Payroll & People Administration, Onboarding, and Recruiting
  • Ensure operational excellence without getting pulled into day-to-day execution
  • Build a scalable recruiting engine to attract high-quality talent
  • Partner with leaders to define roles, expectations, and hiring standards
  • Strengthen how the company assesses and selects the right people
  • Lead a full refresh and ongoing ownership of Trainual
  • Ensure processes, expectations, and training are clearly documented and used
  • Drive accountability in how teams learn, operate, and improve
  • Support leaders across the organization in navigating people-related challenges
  • Partner with outsourced legal and external resources as needed
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the COO and leadership team
