About The Position

The pension analyst supports the administration and governance of the university’s pension plans by delivering accurate reporting and analysis to internal and external stakeholders. This role collaborates with trustees, actuaries, and other external partners to address stakeholder needs and comply with federal and provincial legislation. Key responsibilities include contributing to policy review, project coordination, and the maintenance of pension systems and data integrity. Applying a strong understanding of pension plan environments, the analyst performs and reviews pension calculations and provides direct support to plan members.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with pension plan administration, preferably in a large, diverse, unionized environment.
  • Strong research, analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse environment and with integrated teams.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans and applicable pension legislation is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and accurate reporting to support effective decision-making and ongoing development.
  • Addresses the needs of pension plan stakeholders in collaboration with external parties such as trustees, record keepers, actuaries, and consultants.
  • Assists in monitoring and reviewing policies and practices to support compliance with governance expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with the coordination, documentation, and implementation of ongoing pension plan priorities.
  • Maintains awareness of and complies with federal and provincial pension legislation and plan policies.
  • Reviews data including contributions, service credits, and benefit calculations and performs internal audits and system tests to maintain the reliability and accuracy of pension data and the pension system.
  • Prepares and reviews pension plan calculations and benefit statements to provide accurate information to plan members.
  • Responds to inquiries and provides support to pension plan members.
  • Calculates retirement, termination, spousal relationship breakdown, and death benefits based on plan rules.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements.
  • Maintains pension-related data across systems including HR systems and tracking, employee portals, and the university website.
  • Supports external audits and reviews by providing necessary documentation and analysis.
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
