PEM Program Coordinator

About The Position

The PEM Program Coordinator, within the School of Engineering's Program for Exemplary Mentoring (PEM), will focus on recruitment, retention, professional development, climate, and community for graduate students from non-traditional backgrounds, including first-generation students. This role involves managing operational and administrative activities for the program within the MIT School of Engineering Dean’s Office. Key responsibilities include managing the scholar applications process, planning and staffing events for community building, recruitment, and retention, and performing data analysis and reporting for progress updates, all while managing the program budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of two years of administrative, operations, and/or project/program management experience.
  • Skilled in identifying and addressing systemic barriers to equity in academic institutions.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • Competency in culturally responsive pedagogy and program design.
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups with a wide array of identity and life experiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and judgment.
  • Be a flexible self-starter who can set priorities, juggling competing demands in a busy, team-oriented environment, including a high level of initiative and ability to make independent judgment with minimal supervision for significant periods of time.
  • Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, and SurveyMonkey.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the scholar applications process.
  • Plan and staff events for community building, recruitment, and retention.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting for progress updates.
  • Manage the program budget.
  • Staff evening/weekend community building events (2-3 events per month).
