About The Position

LCMHA (Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority) provides or manages a full array of services to adults and children with mental health and/or emotional disturbances, persons with substance use disorders, and persons with developmental disabilities. Our mission is to create a path to resilience, recovery, wellness, and self-determination for these individuals. The Peer Support Specialist - Community Outreach leads community-based activities supporting and responding to the needs of people with substance use, mental illness, and/or intellectual disabilities.

Requirements

  • Lived experience with a substance use disorder, mental illness, and/or intellectual disability and current stability/recovery
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A valid U.S. driver's license
  • No specific type of previous work experience is required
  • Knowledge of community health and human service systems of Lenawee County.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and equity best practices, including working with diverse populations
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good written communication and grammatical skills
  • The ability to demonstrate absolute discretion with confidential information
  • Basic computer knowledge (such as familiarity with email and internet use) and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Certification through CCAR or Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (desired)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in community coalitions, public events, and community education opportunities
  • Connect with individuals who may be experiencing substance use, mental illness, and/or intellectual disability and supporting them in accessing resources and ongoing services
  • Ensure all projects prioritize community member input and involvement at all levels.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
