JOB SUMMARY Builds community relationships with organizations that support the Veteran, Military, Reserve, Guard, and Families of military (VMRGF). Provides outreach in the San Diego community and creates, implements, and promotes community awareness and education related to the needs of the VMRGF communities and the Courage to Call program.

Requirements

  • Must be a military Veteran or family member of a US Veteran.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Must have privately owned vehicle with proof of current insurance.
  • Must be able to fluently read, write and communicate in English.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as determined necessary.
  • Must respect individual needs of the program’s participants and work well with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources that will be utilized by Veterans, Military, Reserves, Guard, and their Families.
  • Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Peer Specialist Certification preferred.
  • Experience working with clients in recovery from substance use, mental health, and/or homelessness, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outreach to VMRGF community by engaging with them in their communities and through referrals by other providers and agencies.
  • Collaborate with providers who serve VMRGF populations in the region.
  • Maintain a daily log of client contacts.
  • Collect all necessary demographic information for reporting requirements.
  • Provide services in the community - including meetings with VMRGF in the community, working with the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), collaborative meetings in the community, San Diego Courts System, and local colleges.
  • Network with partner organizations to attain appropriate referrals for clients.
  • Attain training and knowledge in cultural competency, co-occurring, and gender responsiveness.
  • Develop informal, formal, and other various networks for VMRGF and youth.
  • Assess the needs of participants and their families and refer to agencies aiding with, but not limited to trauma, PTSD, employment, benefits, and medical issues.
  • Provide field-based services as required by the program and client need.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client’s care.
  • Participate in scheduled program meetings.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
