About The Position

The College Readiness Scholars Institute (CRSI), led by the University of Delaware’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, is seeking current undergraduate students to support a summer pre-collegiate experience for high school students, especially those from first-generation and/or income-limited backgrounds. Peer Staff serve as role models and help scholars understand and navigate a collegiate environment. Staff may be assigned to the Academic, Interpersonal, or Residential component based on their experience, interests, and program needs. All positions are residential, and staff must live in the residence hall throughout training and the program and remain available for the program’s full duration. The role includes required staff meetings and weekend work. Outside employment or commitments and summer coursework not required for graduation are not permitted during the program. Academic duties include escorting scholars to meals and academic sessions, monitoring classes, assisting instructors, providing individual and group academic support, completing reports, attending scheduled meetings, and monitoring structured study in the residence hall. Interpersonal duties include escorting scholars between meals and career, interpersonal, and fitness activities, assisting professional staff with workshops and seminars, addressing groups, sharing information, and interacting with campus administrators. Residential duties include residence hall programming and security, curfew and overnight monitoring, hall checks, quiet-hours and lights-out enforcement, staff meetings, and basic reporting. On a rotating basis, staff work evening duty shifts from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. All Peer Staff are expected to follow program rules and University of Delaware protection of minors policies; support scholars’ safety, health, and wellness; communicate with the team throughout the day; assist with assigned tasks; cultivate a positive and inclusive community; and plan and promote engaging evening and weekend activities. Staff must maintain appropriate personal and professional conduct and abstain from using, possessing, or being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or other controlled substances while performing duties and residing on campus. Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action, including immediate relief of duties.
