About The Position

Academic Success & Undergraduate Advising (ASUA) Peer Advisors are Federal Work-Study student assistants who, under the direct supervision of the Manager, Retention & Graduation Initiatives, help provide academic advising to students in all undergraduate majors at CSUSB. They help students prepare class schedules and understand General Education and major requirements. The role also includes interpreting PAWS, starting and updating myCAPs, explaining academic policies, referring students to campus and community resources, promoting advising, creating advising materials, preparing presentations, facilitating advising information sessions, hosting ASUA drop-ins, and performing general office and clerical duties. This is an on-campus-only, part-time, temporary, seasonal student position. Student employees may not telecommute and must reside in California upon hire. The anticipated hiring range is $16.90 per hour. Work schedules may vary with business needs; occasional evening and weekend work may be required for departmental activities, special events, and other university functions. The application deadline is November 24, 2026, but the position may close earlier if enough qualified applications are received. Federal Work-Study eligibility requires a current-year FAFSA, satisfactory academic progress, at least half-time enrollment, at least $2,000 in federal need, submission of requested financial aid documents by their deadlines, an official Financial Aid Office award notification, and U.S. citizenship, eligible non-citizen status, or permanent residency. Students not initially awarded Federal Work-Study may ask to be added to the waiting list, but doing so does not guarantee an award. Employment is subject to applicable hiring checks and verification of authorization to work in the United States.
