About The Position

Nationwide Children’s Hospital – Toledo is currently seeking a full-time Pediatric Ophthalmologist to join their team. The existing practice is part of the ProMedica Physicians Eye Care team and includes 3 optometrists and one pediatric ophthalmologist. There is a large need for an additional pediatric ophthalmologist due to the closing of another very busy pediatric ophthalmology practice in the area. This pediatric eye department is the nearest provider of these subspecialty services for a population of over 640,000. The successful candidate for this position will join a comprehensive and subspecialty practice that includes retina, cornea, glaucoma, and oculoplastic subspecialists. The pediatric/adult strabismus referral relationships with pediatricians and other eye care providers are well established in this practice. In addition to a busy surgical and clinical practice, the successful candidate would share responsibility for local retinopathy of prematurity screenings and treatment at both Nationwide Children’s Hospital- Toledo and ProMedica Russel J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital with other pediatric ophthalmologists in the region.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine equivalent, required.
  • Graduate of an approved Fellowship program if applicable, required.
  • Medical License in the State of Ohio, required.
  • Unrestricted licensed physician, required.
  • Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, required.

  • Prior clinical practice experience may be required based on the needs of the division.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient assessments and diagnoses medical conditions.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients in accordance with established protocols.
  • Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Communicates with patients and their families to provide education and support.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, and fellows as required.
  • Stays up-to-date with medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care.
  • Share responsibility for local retinopathy of prematurity screenings and treatment.
