About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider Manager provides leadership to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across the UCSF Health Faculty Practice Organization (FPO) and Benioff Children’s Hospitals (SF and Oakland campuses) inpatient and outpatient practice areas and is responsible for their success. Administrative responsibilities fall into five major areas: 1. Administrative; 2. Staff Development; 3. Education; 4. Leadership 5. HR and clinical practice oversight of the APP team in Pediatric Heart Center practice areas. In addition, the APP manager is an expert clinician in Advanced Practice. The APPs in these clinical areas are a highly motivated and engaged group of professionals who provide outstanding care to a complex patient population. The Advanced Practice Provider Manager governs Advanced Practice across the FPO and BCH Pediatric Heart Center practice areas. An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced patient care in their area of specialization. The Advanced Practice Provider Manager will be guided by and follow the policies and standardized procedures or practice agreement, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Health, Nursing, Medical Staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services. In California, nurse practitioners (APRNs), physician assistants (PAs), Certified Nurse Anesthetists, and Certified Nurse Midwives can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under a standardized procedure or practice agreement in collaboration with a supervising physician. This position requires both a role as provider of clinical services as determined by the manager and the administrative functions of the position which involve future workforce planning, orientation of new APP providers, cost center management, and optimization strategies. The Advanced Practice Provider Manager oversees APP compliance with organizational and regulatory agency standards and state practice requirements. UCSF Medical Center requires all APPs to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs and Governance in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, Satellite Clinics, etc.). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day. The UCSF Health Faculty Practice Organization (FPO) and Benioff Children’s Hospitals practice areas span multiple clinical areas including but not limited to: Well Baby Nursery, Intensive Care Nursery, Pediatric Intensive Care, Pediatric Transitional Care, Pediatric Heart Center Practice Areas, Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant, and Pediatric Surgery. The APP Manager will have responsibilities in BCH Heart Center Services. Inpatient services are delivered by multidisciplinary care teams including physicians, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, social workers, dietitians, patient care assistants, and administrative support staff. The FPO and BCH inpatient practice areas provide highly complex care to a diverse population of patients; daily exposure to these unique patient populations and their associated levels of clinical complexity help to develop critical skillsets not ordinarily acquired at a typical hospital.
