2027 PDS&T Bioassay Scientist Co-Op (June - Dec)

AbbVie•Irvine, CA
•$58,656 - $103,500•Onsite

About The Position

The PDS&T Toxins group within AbbVie’s Operations Science & Technology – Biologics organization supports manufacturing, process validation, regulatory submissions, and continuous improvement for late-stage and commercial manufacturing of biological toxins products. This six-month Co-Op is based in Irvine, California, and focuses on applying scientific and bioengineering principles to develop bioassay methods using next-generation cell lines. The experience is not intended to support a thesis. The Co-Op will contribute as an analytical scientist, developing technical ideas and research or development strategies related to bioassay and cell engineering. The role involves understanding project goals, adapting experimental plans to new data or project needs, independently designing and conducting experiments, interpreting results, developing protocols, keeping work on schedule, applying scientific literature, and communicating plans and findings through meetings, reports, presentations, publications, and patents. The position requires practical experience with relevant laboratory methods and the ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university Master’s degree program in Cell and Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, or a related field, and remain enrolled during the Co-Op.
  • Commit to the six-month program in Irvine, California, from June through December.
  • Expected graduation date between May 2028 and December 2028.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with scientists and cross-functional team members.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive test plans and evaluate design concepts.
  • Ability to understand relevant scientific literature and apply its theoretical framework to scientific problems in a timely manner.
  • Detail-oriented, with a record of delivering reliable and consistent results.
  • Good oral communication, technical writing, and documentation skills.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of cell culture, bioassay, cell-cycle control, PCR, Western blotting, and fluorescence microscopy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with neuronal or other differentiated cell models.
