About The Position

Wealthsimple is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their People Operations team for an 18-month fixed-term contract. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of Canadian and US payroll processes. The People Operations team at Wealthsimple focuses on creating a positive employee experience. The Payroll Specialist will be a Workday expert with a strong understanding of full-cycle payroll and its connection to benefits.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years of full-cycle multi-province Canadian experience, including Quebec.
• Significant hands-on experience with Workday Payroll.
• Ability to understand how standard benefit plans work from a payroll perspective and explain taxable benefits to employees.
• Strong analytical skills with a knack for spotting patterns or errors in large datasets.
• Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex tax or payroll concepts into simple terms.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with US payroll.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end semi-monthly payroll process for Canadian and US entities.
• Contribute to the successful completion of the full year-end reporting cycle (T4s, RL-1s, W-2s, T2200s).
• Act as a knowledgeable resource for employees, answering questions regarding pay statements, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.
• Help manage statutory requirements, including provincial/state tax filings, EHT, Workers’ Comp, and relevant US state filings.
• Perform regular audits of payroll data to maintain compliance and internal controls.
