About The Position

Westcan Bulk Transport is seeking an experienced Payroll Practitioner to join their team. This role involves processing bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for transportation companies with over 1,000 employees, ensuring compliance with federal labor standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. The practitioner will review and audit payroll reports, create and maintain post-payroll files, interpret government legislation regarding pay, deductions, benefits, and taxes, and process employee changes (hires, terminations, transfers). This position serves as the primary contact for employee payroll inquiries and issues, requiring efficient resolution of discrepancies. Responsibilities also include reconciling and remitting payroll and benefit liabilities (garnishments, pension, provincial health benefits), communicating with stakeholders, and preparing required reports. Additionally, the role involves verifying and producing ROEs, balancing and reconciling T4/T4As, and maintaining payroll records.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of payroll administration experience within a large company processing both hourly and salaried pay
  • Must have strong Microsoft Excel skills to be able to manage large amounts of data
  • Strong self-starter, able to effectively prioritize key tasks and deliverables with limited day-to-day direction
  • Ability to act with the required discretion when handling confidential information

Nice To Haves

  • A Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is preferred, or working towards the completion of the PCP certification
  • Previous experience with ADP Workforce Now would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Processing bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for transportation companies with 1,000+ employees based on federal labour standards
  • Ensures payroll compliance with internal policies and process and regulatory requirements
  • Review and audit payroll reports for accuracy and identify, resolve or escalate any discrepancies
  • Create and maintain all related post-payroll processing files and reports
  • Understanding and interpreting government legislation to ensure compliance regarding pay, deductions, benefits, taxes and documentation
  • Processing new hires, employee changes, terminations and transfers
  • Be the first point of contact for employees regarding payroll inquiries and issues including resolving discrepancies in an efficient and timely manner
  • Reconciling and/ or remitting all payroll and company benefit liabilities, including, but not limited to garnishments, pension, provincial health benefits, etc.
  • Provide strong communications and prepare reports as required with all stakeholders (internal and external) as required i.e. employees, management, Human Resources, Finance, government agencies, courts and other administrative bodies
  • Verifying and producing ROEs, balancing and reconciling T4/T4As and maintaining payroll records
