About The Position

Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) is seeking a full-time, permanent Payroll Practitioner to join their dynamic team. Requirements

  • An innovative, forward-thinking mindset with a desire to improve and evolve processes.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on payroll experience using a payroll system (ADP WFN or UKG preferred).
  • 1-2 years of experience in Accounting, including accounts receivable and revenue functions.
  • Strong Excel skills, including building complex spreadsheets and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with charitable tax receipting, not-for-profit fundraising, and CRA guidelines.
  • A knack for staying organized, prioritizing effectively, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Sharp attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • A high level of discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to connect with staff, donors, families, and external contacts.
  • A team player who can also work independently and take initiative.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • A Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), or CHRP (or working towards).
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (Blackbaud).

Responsibilities

  • Accurately process bi-weekly payroll, update records (timesheets, benefits, deductions), and issue ROEs.
  • Prepare and submit payroll filings (T4s, WSIB, EHT, pensions, etc.) and stay updated on relevant legislation.
  • Reconcile payroll and pension accounts, prepare journal entries and accruals, and support month-end, year-end, audits, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Record, process, and reconcile various donation types and process tax receipts in collaboration with the Fundraising department.
  • Lead system updates, drive process improvements, and support projects to enhance payroll efficiency.
  • Answer payroll-related questions, provide training, partner with HR on benefits and time-off tracking, and collaborate with Accounts Payable.
  • Support compensation cycles, track employee eligibility (vacation, pension, benefits), assist with HR system updates, and maintain confidentiality.
