About The Position

Champion Home Builders, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and self-driven Payroll/Human Resources Assistant to support their operations in Athens, Texas. This role is critical in ensuring accurate payroll processing and supporting key HR functions. It requires attention to detail, organization, accountability, and urgency. The position directly supports employees and operations by ensuring accurate payment, effective support, and setting employees up for success within a team-driven environment where reliability and consistency are important.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of payroll and/or HR experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (basic formulas and functions required)
  • Familiarity with payroll systems (UKG/UltiPro preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organization, multitasking, and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and have an excellent work ethic
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
  • Must have excellent attendance record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a fast-paced or manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Ability to interact with all levels of personnel - bilingual is a plus
  • Thrives on assisting and teaching employees
  • Willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll by compiling, calculating, and entering data accurately
  • Maintain payroll records, including deductions, benefits, and tax information
  • Track leave, non-taxable wages, and earnings records
  • Generate payroll reports and assist with audits as needed
  • Issue paychecks and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain and update employee records (personal data, benefits, compensation)
  • Support recruiting and onboarding activities
  • Ensure new hire paperwork is complete and compliant
  • Track PTO and vacation accruals
  • Assist with benefits administration, including open enrollment
  • Manage workers' compensation records and reporting
  • Serve as a resource for employee HR-related questions
