About The Position

This position starts with payroll as its core responsibility while providing the opportunity to progressively expand into all areas of Human Resources. You'll become a trusted resource for our leaders and employees while developing experience in areas such as employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, benefits administration, HR compliance, performance management, policy interpretation, workplace investigations, employment legislation, and HR projects and continuous improvement. If your goal is simply to process payroll, this probably isn't the right opportunity. If your goal is to become an exceptional HR professional with payroll expertise as your foundation, you'll fit right in.

Requirements

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation (National Payroll Institute)
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Genuine interest in developing a career in Human Resources

Nice To Haves

  • Experience processing payroll in UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group).
  • Experience supporting Human Resources functions.
  • Experience with benefits administration.
  • Experience in retail, manufacturing, hospitality, or other multi-location environments.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta employment standards and HR legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Maintain employee records and payroll changes.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and company policies.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, T4s, ROEs, and government reporting.
  • Assist with payroll audits and compliance requirements.
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Assist with benefits administration.
  • Respond to employee questions and provide HR guidance.
  • Support recruitment activities.
  • Help maintain HR documentation and records.
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Continue developing your HR knowledge and responsibilities over time.
