About The Position

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Payroll & Benefits Administrator to join our Human Resources team, working 32 hours a week, out of our Airdrie Home Hardware location. In this role, you’ll take ownership of payroll and benefits administration, ensuring everything runs accurately and on time while supporting employees and managers across the organization. You’ll be a trusted go-to for payroll and benefits questions, playing an important role in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in payroll, accounting, business administration, or related field
  • 2–4 years of payroll and benefits administration experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including provincial requirements for both Alberta and British Columbia, as well as CRA regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (critical) and Word, with the ability to manage and reconcile complex payroll data
  • Experience with payroll systems (ADP preferred)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Nice To Haves

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation (or working toward)
  • Experience with benefits administration and vendors
  • Multi-location or retail environment experience

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll, including timesheet review, data entry, and validation within ADP
  • Administer earnings and deductions (commissions, RRSPs, garnishments, adjustments)
  • Monitor vacation accruals, overtime, and statutory pay for accuracy and compliance
  • Manage payroll records and supporting documentation
  • Prepare final pay and Records of Employment (ROEs) for terminations
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and liaise with payroll providers
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Coordinate RRSP contributions and reporting
  • Support employee leaves, LTD coordination, and benefits continuation
  • Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and payroll deductions
  • Assist with annual compensation processes (bonus, COLA)
  • Liaise with benefits carriers and vendors
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, CRA requirements, Employment Standards, and WCB
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports and filings
  • Support year-end payroll processes including reconciliations and T4s
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready records
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and systems
  • Provide guidance on pay statements, vacation, and statutory pay
  • Support onboarding and offboarding related to payroll and benefits
  • Communicate updates, deadlines, and process changes
  • Maintain accurate employee records in ADP and related systems
  • Support onboarding setup and documentation
  • Track training and certifications (e.g., safety, first aid)
  • Prepare reports for HR, Finance, and Operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll and benefits processes
