About The Position

A rapidly growing, VC-backed technology startup is seeking a hands-on Payroll and Accounts Payable Lead to join a new, evolving team. The role is focused approximately 75% on payroll and 25% on accounts payable. The Lead will own payroll and assist with accounts payable as the company scales, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, vendors are paid according to terms, and expense processes are maintained. The role will also help build infrastructure to support a larger company. This position sits at the operational center of accounting and finance on a lean team. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing competing deadlines, handling sensitive information, and proactively improving processes. The position is in-office.

Requirements

At least 6 years of payroll experience, ideally at a high-growth or fast-paced for-profit company.
Working knowledge of multi-state payroll tax requirements.
High level of accuracy and discretion when handling confidential information.
Organized and deadline-driven.
Process-oriented, with an inclination to improve processes rather than simply maintain them.
Self-starter able to operate in a fast-moving environment and learn quickly.

Nice To Haves

Exposure to the accounts payable cycle.
Experience with payroll platforms such as Rippling.
Experience with accounts payable platforms such as Bill.com or Ramp.
Experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct.

Responsibilities

Process payroll accurately and on time for a multi-state workforce.
Manage periodic international payroll runs.
Assist with the end-to-end accounts payable cycle, including vendor setup, invoice intake, approval routing, disbursement planning, and reconciliation.
Administer employee expense reimbursements and the corporate card program.
Support benefits administration in coordination with HR.
Maintain payroll records and prepare reports for audit, tax, and internal purposes.
Stay current on state and local payroll tax compliance as the company adds employees in new jurisdictions.
Identify and drive improvements to payroll and accounts payable systems and workflows.
