About The Position

The Payment Associate, referred to in the posting as a Billing Specialist, oversees payment and deposit reconciliation and posts insurance and patient payments across current and legacy EMR systems. The role reviews and uploads remittances and deposit batches in Athena, performs manual lockbox posting, researches payment discrepancies, manages Athena queues, and assists with refunds and reconciliation between accounting and practice-management systems. The associate also coordinates with hospital finance and payment vendors, collaborates with internal and corporate partners, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and laws.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three to five years of medical billing experience.
• Critical thinking and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Oversee bank/payment reconciliation and clinic deposit and cash reconciliation processes.
• Post insurance and patient payments across all EMR systems, including legacy systems.
• Review, scan, and upload remittances and deposit batches in Athena; perform manual lockbox posting.
• Verify remittance amounts and research discrepancies, including contacting payers.
• Manage Athena unpostables and correspondence queues.
• Assist with insurance and patient refunds and reconcile accounting and practice-management systems.
• Coordinate with hospital finance to resolve misrouted payments.
• Post manual credit card payments and resolve issues with vendors.
• Collaborate with internal and corporate partners to share best practices.
• Ensure compliance with all regulations, standards, and laws.
