Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; construction-related degree preferred
  • Proven experience in construction estimating (pavement marking, traffic control, or roadway preferred)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and technical documents
  • Proficiency in Excel and estimating software
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Must comply with our Substance Abuse Prevention Policy
  • Pre-employment drug screening required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ODOT or DOT-regulated projects
  • Field experience in pavement marking or roadway construction
  • Ability to think beyond numbers—understanding execution, risk, and profitability

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to fully understand project scope and requirements
  • Perform quantity take-offs and field evaluations as needed
  • Prepare detailed labor, material, and equipment cost estimates
  • Develop competitive, accurate bids aligned with company strategy and market conditions
  • Lead the full bid process, including bid submission and follow-up
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure cost efficiency and reliability
  • Partner with operations and project management teams to align estimates with execution
  • Support project teams throughout the lifecycle with cost tracking, change orders, and budget alignment
  • Identify risks, cost drivers, and potential challenges impacting project success
  • Analyze historical data and project outcomes to continuously improve estimating accuracy
  • Track estimated vs. actual project costs and identify variances
  • Contribute to process improvements, systems, and estimating best practices
  • Maintain working knowledge of ODOT specifications, roadway standards, and safety requirements
