About The Position

Escorts or transports patients within the facility, records patient movement in the transport tracking system, picks up and delivers materials and equipment, and assists with duties related to assigned specialty areas.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean, maintain, and operate transport equipment and elevators to move or escort patients and visitors throughout the hospital, following established procedures.
• Receive formal instructions when picking up a patient and provide a formal hand-off report at the destination when not required to remain with the patient; report changes in patient status or condition during transport.
• Remove and report defective equipment to a supervisor; assist clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfers and transport.
• Check that oxygen tanks contain sufficient oxygen and are secured safely for transport; clean transportation equipment according to infection-control protocols.
• Confirm patient readiness and required equipment for transport, and ensure the equipment is ready and available.
• Recognize symptoms of cardiopulmonary distress, call the code team, and provide interim basic life support for airway management and cardiac arrests until the team arrives.
• Use the patient transport tracking system to receive patient information and accept, track, and close assignments.
• Pick up and deliver materials and equipment to hospital offices and departments according to applicable operating procedures.
• Transfer deceased patients to the hospital morgue in accordance with operating procedures.
• Perform related duties as required.
