About The Position

Assists the health care team in implementing the plan of care by safely and efficiently transporting patients within the hospital and supporting patient care, discharge, department readiness, and a clean environment. The role requires American Red Cross BLS certification; certification training will be provided during orientation if the employee has not already achieved it. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with preparation for patient discharge, including checking belongings, obtaining a wheelchair, and escorting the patient out.
Seek assistance from appropriate resources as needed and recognize when emergency intervention is required.
Promote learning for colleagues and self, and function as a preceptor.
Proactively identify risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical and health care errors, including appropriately reporting errors and incidents.
Identify ethical issues and report them to the RN.
Report patient complaints of pain to the primary RN in a timely manner.
Transport patients safely and efficiently to and from different areas of the hospital.
Assist staff with transferring patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs, and similar equipment.
Maintain and restock supplies and equipment, including gloves, oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, stretchers, and precaution carts.
Report malfunctioning equipment.
Support hourly rounding in the department and incorporate the 4Ps: Pain, Potty, Positioning, and Personal Possessions.
Help maintain an orderly, clutter-free, and clean environment.
Adhere to Infection Control policies.
Deliver and pick up supplies, medications, and laboratory items to and from other departments.
