Responsible for monitoring assigned hospital patients who have an order for 1:1 staffing. Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Sitter watches over the patient and ensures they remain in a safe environment. The role may include assisting with meals and direct patient care, such as turning, feeding, bathing, and helping with bathroom needs. Suicide and high-risk patients must not be left unattended, and the sitter must maintain visual contact at all times, including during toileting. The Patient Sitter communicates with the patient care team, receives a report about the patient's condition and plan of care before starting a shift, and provides a report before leaving the assigned patient. The sitter accompanies the patient off the floor for procedures, but must not take the patient to smoke or to the cafeteria or gift shop.
