About The Position

The Patient Sitter works in the Float Pool at Texas Health Denton, a fast-paced teaching hospital. The role involves observing patients, reporting activity and requests to nursing staff, and helping protect patient rights and preferences. The position is PRN (as needed) with a rotating shift and may require weekend and holiday work. The unit offers self-scheduling and opportunities for educational and career growth.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency, if applicable.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification before providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training (CPI) within 60 days of hire, maintained quarterly.

Nice To Haves

Previous hospital experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Stay in the room as appropriate and continuously watch the patient.
Collect data on the patient's activities and verbalizations as requested, and report findings to the nurse.
Report unusual verbal or physical activities using the call bell, emergency call bell, or Vocera.
Coordinate with staff when a lunch, dinner, or restroom break is needed.
Notify staff of patient requests, such as going to the bathroom or repositioning.
In collaboration or consultation with the nurse, incorporate cultural and religious needs and beliefs into care delivery.
Attend training and education appropriate to the care setting and practice.
Take action to protect patient rights and preferences.
Follow the chain of command.
Participate in departmental or hospital process-improvement activities as requested.
Follow accepted scheduling guidelines.
