The Patient Services Representative is responsible for complete and accurate patient registration, pre-certification, charge capture, and accurately coding diagnoses given by physicians. They also handle posting all payments, balancing computer reports at day end, arranging for patient pre-payments, and enforcing financial agreements prior to providing service. This role acts as a liaison between patients and medical support staff, greets patients and visitors courteously, checks in patients, verifies and updates insurance information, and obtains necessary signatures on forms. The position involves maintaining the appointment book, providing front office phone support, screening visitors, and gathering/coding outpatient charges. Responsibilities include processing vouchers and private payments, researching address verification, handling mail returns, acquiring billing information, performing cashiering functions, preparing daily cash deposits, and working with patients on financial agreements. The role also assists with outpatient coding, error resolution, processing edits, and customer service requests, identifying and communicating trends to management, and updating patient account databases. Additionally, the Patient Services Representative schedules appointments, answers patient questions, assembles patient charts, updates patient profiles, oversees the waiting area, and assists patients with various insurance and benefit-related inquiries. They process benefit correspondence, signature, and insurance forms, assist with pre-certification, and follow up with insurance companies. The role involves posting actions, maintaining patient account records, answering account inquiries, confirming workers’ compensation claims, preparing disability claims, and following up on claim payments. Maintaining files, researching billing information, coding procedures and diagnoses, entering charge information, processing billings, and pulling/filing charts are also key duties. The position requires collecting payments at time of service, reviewing accounts for timely payments, performing collection actions, evaluating financial status, establishing payment plans, and recommending accounts for collection agencies. Identifying and resolving billing complaints and participating in educational activities are also part of the role. The Patient Services Representative registers new patients, updates financial information, maintains confidentiality, and performs related duties as assigned.
