About The Position

The Patient Service Specialist provides service to patients before, during, or after appointments with minimal guidance. The role facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and communicates effectively. It also involves navigating complex patient needs, including scheduling across multiple services and coordinating with outside facilities or providers. Based at Vanderbilt General Gastroenterology’s Franklin GI Clinic, the position supports care for patients with acute and chronic digestive disorders. The clinic provides diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions and connects patients with Vanderbilt specialty clinics when additional specialized care is needed. The role operates Monday through Friday during the day. The listed experience level is one year, and the education requirement is a high school diploma or GED.

Requirements

One year of relevant work experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Customer service capability at the intermediate level.
Patient scheduling capability at the novice level.
Patient documentation capability at the novice level.
Medical terminology and documentation capability at the novice level.
Appointment and procedural scheduling capability at the fundamental-awareness level.

Responsibilities

Perform all Associate Patient Service Specialist job responsibilities proficiently.
Schedule appointments and procedures through clinical communication, work queues, and patient portal messages.
Manage registration and patient work queues.
Coordinate with patients and outside facilities to ensure pre-appointment orders and consultations have been received and are ready to view before the patient visit.
Communicate with patients through the patient portal and use critical decision-making to route messages appropriately.
