About The Position

A Patient Service Specialist II at Scotland Memorial Hospital - Family Medicine is responsible for managing patient check-in and check-out processes, ensuring accurate patient registration, verifying insurance eligibility, and handling patient communications. This role involves scheduling appointments, managing patient documentation, collecting payments, and coordinating referrals and ancillary services. The specialist plays a key role in providing a positive patient experience and supporting the efficient operation of the family medicine practice.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately completes EPIC registration for each patient, verifying and updating demographics, screening insurance eligibility, and scanning insurance cards.
  • Offers Self-Pay Sliding Fee applications and ensures acknowledgements are signed for self-pay patients.
  • Ensures E-sign Consent for treatment and insurance authorization are completed.
  • Performs patient reminder calls and handles live calls for appointment reminders to decrease unused appointment slots.
  • Assists patients with scheduling, rescheduling appointments, and creating inbox messages for needs like medication refills.
  • Identifies RED words and performs scheduling for walk-ins.
  • Generates no-show letters through EPIC.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments, referrals, and ancillary services as directed by EPIC provider orders.
  • Returns phone messages and assists patients.
  • Distributes landline faxes to appropriate Clerical and Clinical Teammates.
  • Completes appropriate referral work queues.
  • Ensures patients receive AVS (after visit summary).
  • Completes work notes as directed by the provider.
  • Collects copays and coinsurance at check-out or check-in.
  • Completes standard work for daily deposit and reconciliation.
  • Manages ON Base Patient Documentation Application.
  • Transcribes orders/Enters Referral Orders.
  • Schedules incoming referrals by practice protocols.
  • Completes Prior Authorizations as required.
