About The Position

The Patient Service Representative is the initial point of contact for front-office activity at a physician office and helps direct patient flow. The role performs patient check-ins and appointment scheduling, maintains patient financial records, and may serve as a switchboard operator as needed. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week outpatient role with BJC Medical Group in Belleville, Illinois, on the day shift. The position is benefit eligible and has no call, weekend, or holiday work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–5 years of experience.

Nice To Haves

• Medical office experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle telephone calls from patients and staff and forward calls requiring triage.
• Perform receptionist duties with close attention to detail and professionalism.
• Verify health insurance payment information and educate patients about applicable regulations; collect payments and record data.
• Enter service charges, including assigning diagnostic codes and entering physician- and clinic-related charges.
• Coordinate information with the Central Billing Office to ensure charges are captured and properly collected.
• Perform patient check-ins and appointment scheduling.
• Maintain patient financial records.
• Serve as a switchboard operator as needed.
• Help direct patient flow at the physician office.
