The Patient Service Representative is responsible for performing all job duties in a way that conforms to our customer service philosophy and consistent with our "AIDET" standards. This includes greeting and acknowledging patients and family members, introducing them to services, providing information on expected wait times, explaining the nature of the work and how information is safeguarded, and handing patients off to the next area with a clear "thank you." The role involves creating new registrations for walk-in patients, identifying insurance coverage, benefits, and patient out-of-pocket expenses, and collecting co-insurance and co-payments. They will use electronic systems to confirm coverage, resolve eligibility issues, and screen uninsured patients for urgent status, following charity procedures and referring for financial counseling as appropriate. The representative will also screen orders for compliance, work with various departments to resolve issues related to order quality, and be responsible for security authorization and precertification of inpatient and outpatient services. They will maintain knowledge of computer software programs for eligibility verification, identify at-risk balances related to Medicare and Medicaid, and communicate with relevant departments. The role also involves initiating communication with patients regarding authorization issues and potential financial impacts, accurately collecting and analyzing clinical data for prior authorization, and maintaining current knowledge of insurance requirements and federal/state billing regulations. Ensuring completion of policies for identification and notification of Primary Care Physician for HMO coverage plans and informing relevant departments of out-of-network or non-covered service limitations are also key responsibilities. The position requires ensuring accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information, pre-registering and registering patients using established procedures, providing education on documents requiring patient signatures, managing incoming and outgoing calls for pre-registrations, and generating/assembling/processing required documents. Participation in departmental team building, in-services, and assisting leaders with special assignments is also expected. For registrars staffed at offsite imaging centers, additional activities include performing CPOE for exams, light cleaning of changing areas, printing and distributing results CDs, and escorting patients to changing areas.
