This part-time role focuses on creating the initial electronic health record, preventing duplicate records, and ensuring patient safety through positive identification. The representative will check in and register patients, collect necessary demographic and insurance information, and discuss/collect co-pays. Accurate registration is key to timely payment and preventing billing issues. The role also involves maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understanding insurance basics, and knowing which plans Advocate Health contracts with. Financial information and obligations will be discussed with patients, with referrals to Financial Advocates as needed. The position requires knowledge of compliance regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others, and obtaining necessary patient signatures. Appointment scheduling, cancellations, and reschedules may also be part of the duties. Providing accurate information about test preparations, arrival times, and directions is essential. The role emphasizes creating a welcoming and professional environment through extraordinary customer service, greeting patients and visitors, answering telephones, and offering assistance with transportation, directions, wheelchairs, and interpreter services. Monitoring and working assigned electronic health record work queues is also a responsibility.
