This position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which serves as the foundation for the patient medical record used by all healthcare team members. It plays a crucial role in preventing duplicate medical records, which can lead to safety and billing issues. The role ensures patient safety by positively identifying patients prior to care delivery, in compliance with organizational mandates. Responsibilities include patient check-in and registration, obtaining and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Accurate information at registration ensures timely payment and prevents billing problems. The role also maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understands insurance basics, identifies contracted plans, and knows when a statement of financial responsibility is needed. It involves discussing financial information with patients, referring them to Financial Advocates when necessary, and ensuring compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others by using the correct forms and asking the required questions. The role may also involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations, reschedules, and waitlist requests. Providing accurate information about test preparations, arrival times, and check-in procedures is essential. The position aims to create a welcoming and professional environment through exceptional customer service, greeting patients, responding to requests, answering telephones, and offering assistance with transportation, directions, wheelchairs, and interpreter services. The role also involves monitoring and working assigned electronic health record work queues according to department processes.
