This role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which is crucial for patient safety and billing accuracy. The Patient Service Representative ensures positive patient identification, verifies demographic and insurance information, and collects co-pays. They maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understand insurance basics, and identify when financial responsibility statements are needed. The position also involves educating patients on financial obligations and referring them to Financial Advocates when necessary. Compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others is essential, requiring the collection of necessary signatures. Additionally, the role may involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations and reschedules, and providing detailed information to patients regarding preparations and procedures. A key aspect of this role is creating a welcoming environment through exceptional customer service, answering phones, and assisting patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. Monitoring and working electronic health record work queues is also a responsibility.
