About The Position

The Patient Service Associate in the HBD - Internal Medicine department is responsible for coordinating patient appointment scheduling, including registering patients, updating insurance information, and other related duties. This role involves interacting with a diverse patient population and utilizing the electronic medical record system to maintain patient records. The associate must be knowledgeable about state and government agency requirements for patient consents, especially for wards of the state and patients with proxies. They also need to understand and adhere to payer requirements for referrals and authorizations. Key responsibilities include scheduling follow-up appointments, referrals, and prior authorizations, as well as communicating professionally with providers, patients, clinical teams, and insurance companies. The role also entails answering incoming phone calls and directing them appropriately, and maintaining a professional image through adherence to the dress code.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients, update insurance information, and schedule visits.
  • Coordinate patient appointment scheduling.
  • Interact with a diverse patient population.

  • Be knowledgeable with state and government agencies to provide proper consents for patients who are wards of the state.
  • Work with facilities to obtain proper consents from patient proxies.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to payer requirements for referrals and authorization.
  • Schedule follow up appointments, referrals and prior authorization for patient schedule visits.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with all parties, including providers, patients, clinical care team, and insurance companies.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct appropriately to team members.
  • Convey a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
  • Responsible for registration and scheduling process for complex patients.
  • Responsible for updating the system with registration, scheduling and insurance information.
  • Prepare patient disability and out of work / school paperwork.
  • Responsible for discussing financial obligation and explaining regulatory forms, as well as answering any questions.
  • Work in multiple systems during patient facing interactions and telephone call receipts to complete accurate registration and to support the clinical workflow.
  • Understand the practice and hospital strategic plan.
  • Support plans, policy and procedures, and initiatives within scope of their departments expectations and role.
  • Represent AMC and support the ideals and principles of their department, the Practice, the Hospital and the Center.
