About The Position

The Patient Service Associate - Psych role is within the Psychiatry Resident Clinic and involves coordinating patient appointment scheduling, interacting with a diverse patient population, and maintaining patient records using an electronic medical record system. This position requires knowledge of state and government agencies for patient consents, understanding payer requirements for referrals and authorizations, and communicating professionally with various parties including providers, patients, and insurance companies. The associate will also handle incoming phone calls and ensure a professional image by adhering to the dress code.

Requirements

  • Access to information considered sensitive to Albany Medical Center, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including but not limited to HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by Federal and New York State statutes.

  • Use or disclosure shall not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients, update insurance information, and schedule visits.
  • Coordinate patient appointment scheduling.
  • Interact with a diverse patient population.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record to maintain patient records.
  • Provide proper consents for patients who are wards of the state and work with facilities to obtain proper consents from patient proxies.
  • Adhere to payer requirements for referrals and authorization.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, and prior authorizations.
  • Communicate professionally and timely with providers, patients, clinical care team, and insurance companies.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct them appropriately.
  • Prepare patient disability and out of work/school paperwork.
  • Discuss financial obligations and explain regulatory forms.
  • Work in multiple systems during patient-facing interactions and telephone call receipts.
  • Ensure an optimal patient experience.
  • Promote patient and employee safety.
