About The Position

Bartlett Regional Hospital is looking for a Patient Registration Specialist to join our Patient Access Services team! This is a casual position. The Patient Registration Specialist (PRS) role has three levels: PRS 1 is an entry-level position responsible for supporting basic front-line registration and customer service tasks in the hospital. Under close supervision, this role will learn to perform patient registration, verify insurance information and provide customer service to patients, visitors, and staff. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate data collection and positive patient experience at the point of entry. PRS 2 performs the registration tasks independently. They are responsible for accurately collecting and verifying patient information, insurance coverage, and financial requirements to support patient care and timely billing. PRS 3 performs a broad range of front-line administrative duties to support patient access, coordination, and hospital revenue processes. Responsibilities include patient registration, insurance verification, benefit authorization, and point-of-service collections. This level also operates the hospital switchboard, monitors safety alarms, and provides customer service to patients and visitors of a higher acuity (emergency, international).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • PRS 1: Previous clerical or customer service preferred.
  • PRS 2: One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience.
  • PRS 2 Substitution: 6 months performing an administrative role or PRS1 at BRH.
  • PRS 3: Two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience
  • PRS 3 Substitution: 6 months PRS2 at BRH or in hospital patient registration at another facility.
  • All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.

Benefits

  • In lieu of fringe benefits, Casual employees will receive a $2.00 per hour differential in addition to their hourly rate.
