About The Position

Serve as a liaison between insurance and health care providers to ensure the timely coordination and accurate processing of patient referrals required for medical specialty visits. Manage the clinic’s patient referral requests and track their progress to support timely patient care. Responsibilities also include scheduling specialty consultations and radiology and laboratory testing, obtaining and sending insurance authorizations and referrals, responding to and following up on EHR messages daily, verifying insurance information, and updating the clinical team, providers, and administration on referral statuses as needed.

Requirements

• Associate degree plus one year of experience directly related to processing patient referrals; OR high school diploma or GED plus three years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant; OR high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience directly related to patient registration, patient scheduling, patient billing/collections, processing prior authorizations, and/or processing patient referrals.

• Experience working with the consult/referral process.

Responsibilities

• Manage the operation of the clinic's patient referral requests to ensure they are completed in a timely manner for patient care.
• Serve as the primary contact for patient referrals; receive referrals and maintain and track referral requests.
• Schedule appointments for specialty consultations, radiology, and laboratory testing.
• Obtain and send insurance authorizations and referrals for patient consultations, radiology, and diagnostic testing.
• Respond to and follow up on messages in the EHR daily.
• Verify insurance information for every patient requiring a consultation, specialty radiology, or laboratory testing.
• Provide updates to the clinical team, providers, and administration regarding referral patient statuses as needed.
