Patient Mobility Tech - inpatient Rehab
About The Position
Saint Francis Hospital is seeking a Patient Mobility Technician to join its Acute Care Inpatient Rehab Team. The role supports patient outcomes and satisfaction by engaging patients and families in respectful, supportive social interactions and motivating patients to achieve personalized ambulation goals. The technician guides patients in ambulation, tracks and documents the distance and frequency of daily walks, and identifies and addresses obstacles to safe ambulation. The technician also encourages patients to communicate concerns or requests and relays these observations to the care team. Walking schedules may be adjusted to maximize the number of patients participating in daily walks. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no weekends. The position is based at Saint Francis Hospital, a 617-bed teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center in Connecticut.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Organized and able to prioritize effectively.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use a computer and mouse.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to collaborate with the healthcare team.
Nice To Haves
- Prior healthcare or patient service experience is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Guide patients in ambulation activities.
- Track and document the distance and frequency of each patient's daily walks.
- Identify and address obstacles to safe ambulation.
- Encourage patients to express concerns or requests and communicate these observations and requests to the care team.
- Adjust walking schedules to maximize the number of patients engaged in daily walks.
- Engage with patients and families in a respectful, supportive manner to motivate patients toward their personalized ambulation goals.
