About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Patient Escort III (Trainer) to join our Christiana Hospital. This role is ideal for a seasoned Patient Escort who is passionate about training, mentoring, and supporting new team members, while continuing to provide exceptional patient-centered service. As a Patient Escort III, you will serve as a subject matter expert and departmental trainer, ensuring new hires and current staff are competent, confident, and aligned with ChristianaCare’s safety, service, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous patient escort or patient transport experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire
  • Knowledge of hospital layout and departments (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of basic body mechanics and safe patient handling
  • Comfort using smartphones and basic computer systems (email, scheduling, timekeeping)
  • Ability to remain professional, calm, and compassionate in high‑stress situations
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with ED staff

Responsibilities

  • Performs Service Assistant I, II and III job duties as assigned.
  • Transports patients via stretcher, wheelchair, beds, and specialized vehicles to/from patient care and clinical service areas as directed.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Trains new employees on proper transport procedures, proper operation of equipment, disinfectant of equipment and how to assist in patient transfers.
  • Trainer will also teach the essentials of customer service, communication and proper handoff procedures.
  • Trains employees on auxiliary/specialty functions, such as oxygen rounding, clinical/specimen rounding, PT gym, procedures, and L&D transports.
  • Evaluates new-hires on their ability to perform the key functions of the job using the department training checklists.
  • Provides feedback and constructive criticism to new-hires.
  • Informs supervisor/training specialist of any concerns (safety, work performance, customer service) as soon as possible.
  • Assists the training specialist/leadership in development of various training materials as assigned.
  • Assists and/or leads department training sessions and initiatives for new-hires and current employees.
  • Acts as a support to the dispatch function when necessary.
  • Assists clinical personnel in transferring patients to/from transport vehicles.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of departmental equipment.
  • Attends educational programs, in-service meetings, and other meetings as directed.
  • Attends training workshops and assist the training specialist or manager with skills stations as assigned.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on department protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Pick-up and delivery of clinical equipment, medication, paperwork, specimens.
