About The Position

UPMC Altoona is hiring Host Diet Clerks in its Nutrition Services department. The Patient Dining Associate provides food service to patients on assigned units, including menu selection, tray assembly, delivery and pickup, handling special requests, and delivering food between meals. The role includes interacting courteously with patients, visitors, and staff and supporting a positive patient dining experience. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available with varied day-shift schedules. Employees must be available to work rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Customer service experience.
• Outgoing personality and ability to interact with patients, visitors, and staff in a positive, courteous, tactful, and cooperative manner.
• Ability to use current technology and computer skills.
• Act 34 clearance.
• Availability to work rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Visit patients after tray delivery to check meal satisfaction and obtain missing items or make substitutes as needed while following diet restrictions.
• Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously and maintain accurate, effective communication.
• Deliver meal trays to patients in assigned areas and verify two patient identifiers before delivery.
• Greet patients warmly, address them professionally by name, and respect their privacy.
• Assist patients with menu selections and enter selections into Hospitality Suite.
• Pick up trays after meals, empty fluid containers before returning trays, and ensure carts are empty of clean trays before adding dirty trays.
• Record intake and output as appropriate.
• Record foods eaten for calorie counts on the calorie count worksheet.
• Perform patient food-service duties, including tray assembly, handling special requests, and delivering between-meal food.
