About The Position
Provides patient food services to assigned patient care units. Duties include taking menu selections, assembling and delivering meal trays, picking up trays, responding to special requests and needs, and delivering food between meals. The role requires attentive, caring service to patients and coordination with dietary, nutrition, and nursing personnel to support accurate, safe meal service and compliance with prescribed diets. The position also follows health, sanitation, and cleaning procedures and may include other duties or changing functions as needed.
Requirements
- Previous institutional or fast food kitchen experience preferred.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- No certifications or licensure required.

Responsibilities
- Takes patient menu selections before each meal and introduces the Catering to You Program with a friendly, caring attitude.
- Assembles trays accurately and promptly according to patient menus and tray tickets.
- Delivers trays, conducts catering rounds to ask whether patients need anything, and retrieves trays after rounds.
- Responds to patient needs and resolves concerns or complaints promptly, seeking or reporting assistance to a supervisor when appropriate.
- Follows therapeutic and modified diet restrictions while accommodating food preferences within the limits of diet orders.
- Offers permitted menu alternatives in consideration of prescribed diets, allergies, sensitivities, and cultural, ethnic, or religious preferences.
- Coordinates with Dietitians and Nutrition Techs to support accuracy and patient safety.
- Communicates with Nursing personnel to verify diet prescriptions and meet patients’ food needs.
- Maintains accurate, current information for patients on assigned units.
- Reports patient-related problems or concerns to appropriate personnel promptly and according to departmental procedures.
- Complies with applicable federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations and department procedures.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment and uses cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer directions and MSDS sheets.
