About The Position

The Patient Companion Virtual Care position is responsible for utilizing technology for virtual patient observation and interventions to ensure safe patient care. This role involves setting up and using virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices. The companion collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification. They also ensure alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible. The primary duty is to maintain continuous visual observation of multiple patients simultaneously on a monitor, ensuring a co-worker monitors assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when continuous observation cannot be maintained. The role also includes redirecting patients promptly to maintain safety.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
1 Year Experience in an patient care setting/role such as Nurse Aide's, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role. is required
Basic computer skills, data entry required.
Job requires sitting for prolonged periods.
Proficient communication.
Use of hands, vision-color, hearing, speaking.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency in the set-up and ongoing use of virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
Collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to set up camera to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
Assures alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
Maintains continuous visual observation of multiple patients at one time on a monitor; assures a co-worker is monitoring assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when unable to maintain continuous observation (e.g., when engaged in two-way video call).
Redirects patients promptly to maintain patient safety.
