About The Position

The Patient Companion Virtual Care role is part of the Sitters Department at Texas Health. This position is an in-person role located at 8200 Walnut Hill Ln., Dallas, TX. The department offers opportunities to innovate healthcare, professional advancement, and strong teamwork and collaboration. The role involves utilizing technology for virtual patient observation and interventions, collaborating with nursing staff, and maintaining continuous visual observation of multiple patients. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is an 875-bed, full-service hospital that has served the Dallas community since 1966, specializing in cancer care, cardiology, neurosciences, women’s services, and emergency medicine. It is recognized for its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Comprehensive Stroke Center, Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, and Women’s Robotic Surgery program. The hospital is Joint Commission-certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level I Trauma Center, and Comprehensive Heart Attack Center, and is a designated Magnet hospital.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • 1 Year Experience in an patient care setting/role such as Nurse Aide's, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role. is required
  • Basic computer skills, data entry required.
  • Job requires sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Proficient communication.
  • Use of hands, vision-color, hearing, speaking.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organization and prioritization skills.
  • Manages stress appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the technology required for virtual patient observation and interventions for safe patient care.
  • Demonstrates competency in the set-up and ongoing use of virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
  • Collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to set up camera to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
  • Assures alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
  • Maintains continuous visual observation of multiple patients at one time on a monitor; assures a co-worker is monitoring assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when unable to maintain continuous observation (e.g., when engaged in two-way video call).
  • Redirects patients promptly to maintain patient safety.
