PCT - Patient Care Technician - CVICU Stepdown - Days
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision in the Cardiovascular ICU Stepdown department at UAB St. Vincent's East. This is a full-time day position scheduled for three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The technician assists patients with ambulation, personal care, and activities of daily living; reports changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff; and documents required records. The role also includes maintaining clean and orderly patient rooms and medical equipment, performing assigned technical care tasks, and recording vital signs, weights, and intake and output. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and serves patients across Alabama through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements
- BLS Provider certification obtained within one month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
